Weekend in Switzerland

Les Paccots

My mother and I began the hike from Les Paccots at 9AM. We hiked up through the mixed forests of deciduous and fir trees. The fir trees impressed me in particular in their straightness and stature. After 1h30 we reached 1500m and knocked on the door of a farmer who told us about his 3 herds of cows which he supervised by means of his electric bike. He sold us 2 rolls of his goats cheese which we munched down over lunch. His house interrior was mostly wooden, dark, with a simple charm. He looked very happy. From there, we continued the undulating path along the mountain side, with an unbroken view of the Moleson. The main landmark mountain which reached up to 2000 meters in elevation. Along this stretch I spotted at least 3 different Royal Eagles soaring about 30 meters above our tiny little heads. On one occasion, I saw a smaller raptor hovering in place before a dive. Unfortunately for him, he came up empty. It goes without saying that we passed the farmer's herd of cows, whom we made aware of our precense by greeting them in their native French

"Bonjour les vaches! On est la!"

The farmer had told us that a few weeks ago a women had surprised them, and was charged at by a cow. Needless to say she was air-lifted to the hospital. We stopped at a "Buvette" which is a sort of mountain pub, and got two coffees. They come with a traditional chocolate filled with some Swiss cream. It was a combo for the history books. We then commenced the march down the mountain and reached the car with 15km under our belts!
